And now for something completely different …

So, after returning from a New Zealand springtime and the richness of the blues and greens and so inspired by so many beautiful places, I went to my studio to weave. There on the loom was an autumn coloured warp that I had made before I left.

Surprisingly, it called to me and I ended up weaving in totally different colours for me…

I thought I’d make a mobius scarf – and so wove the ends in to make the loop…

And finished weaving (still need to finish the ends and wash it)…

Also, yesterday – 3 huge boxes arrived from Japan with my long-awaited yarn sets. I’m working on uploading them into my Etsy shop. Beautiful colours – here is the blue-green one 🙂

And today, Christmas Eve, we went for a walk in the woods – it was a warm, sunny day.

Candy Cane Mobius

This morning I made a Candy Cane mobius scarf on a narrow Christmas warp that I had on one of my studio looms.

SAORI Necklaces

Lynn came over last Saturday and we spent the morning in the studio playing with SAORI necklaces. We put on very narrow warps and had fun making these skinny, skinny scarves – SAORI necklaces.

I also tried making a mini-mobius necklace which was fun.

It opens up more possibilities and such fun and experimental accessories to make. What do you think?

Green Mobius

This year our Fall Fair theme was “Green and Growing” and so I put on a green warp for the public weaving at the fair (see photos here). With the last bit of the warp, I wove a green SAORI-style mobius scarf. It has become a current favourite!

More Be Sweet yarns

Last week my aunt and uncle were visiting Salt Spring Island and they were both weaving in the studio. Franky wanted to learn to make a woven mobius scarf. She chose her yarns, wound the warp and my uncle John did the threading for her.

She really like the Ocean Magic Ball yarn from Be Sweet and so based her colours on that, using some of the Saori cotton boucle (loop) yarn and cotton with lame.

I love the finished scarf!

I have just finished weaving a mobius scarf in fall colours. I am going to enter it into our local Fall Fair.

My Family Comes to Visit & Weave

At the beginning of December, Salt Spring Island has many Christmas craft sales and events. My family enjoys coming out to enjoy a ‘girls getaway & Christmas craft sale-ing’ week – this was the 3rd annual event! We always have a great time…

Christmas weaving

Of course, weaving in the Saori Salt Spring Studio is a big part of the week and some lovely things were woven. This was definitely the year of the MOBIUS…

The Mobius Story continues…

A while ago, I started making mobius scarves from my weaving. This all started with a piece of weaving that my mom loved. She thought it would make a great scarf – but it was too short. I was inspired to make a mobius (inspired by my son being a mathematician) as a kind of scarf/neckwarmer.

Well, now it seems to be growing…and others are making them too! What fun! Here are a few posts that I have found about them…

Here are two that I made (they are also in previous posts) – and I’m also working on some more…

Mobius Scarf

This one (above) was the one for my mom. When I sent it to her, I didn’t think to mention that it was a mobius and it really was quite funny – she tried and tried to get it to lay flat – and then realized that it had a twist – on purpose!

and another one here on Next Door Style.

Also, I recently read a post on Ravelry by Cat Bordhi about knitting a mobius scarf. She mentioned this in relation to healing, infinity, recycling, etc. She also has a YouTube video on how to get started knitting a mobius.

So have fun with the mobius – whether you knit or weave it – or create it in any other way…they really are quite magical.

I’d love to share more posts or photos – so please let me know if you’ve made one and I’ll post again with more links!

Another Möbius scarf – Saori style

Today I just finished off another mobius scarf. This was with a length of very colourful weaving – in cottons, bamboo and other fibres.

I took a strip and twisted it and braided the fringes together. This gives a lot of options for ways to wear it.

And the colours go with so many things – it’s going to be fun to wear. And now that fall seems to be here, it’s nice to have something cozy around my neck.
