Weaving for Peace
World Peace Forum 2006
Thank you to everyone who contributed and participated in Weaving a Banner for Peace in 2006!
The first Peace Banner was finished on August 12, 2006 and has been on display at the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre in Downtown Vancouver, BC.
The Peace Banner started in Vancouver, at the World Peace Forum, where there were people from all across Canada from the USA, from India, Japan, Yugoslavia, Mexico, and many other countries.
The Peace Banner then travelled to a SAORI conference in Worcester, MA, where SAORI weavers from Japan and across the USA and Canada added to the banner. The banner was then finished here on Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada with weaving done by many more people.

Also, if you are interested in the creation of another Peace Banner, please let me know, as this will be the first of many banners for Peace.
SAORI Peace Weave – Hiroshima, Japan
Each year since 2007, Hiroshima, Japan has invited people to submit SAORI woven banners for Peace to be displayed in an exhibit. Each year (except 2020 and 2021 due to Covid), SAORI Salt Spring has sent a banner to be part of this exhibit. The majority of the banners have been woven by community – adding threads and thoughts of peace.
Other Banners
Terri has been Weaving for Peace since 2006 and has created banners by taking her SAORI Loom out to the community and to events. There have been banners created and presented to individuals and organizations in:

- Hiroshima, Japan
- Sendai, Japan
- Somalia
- Gibson’s Landing, BC
- Victoria, BC
- Ottawa, ON
- Edmonton, AB
- and on Salt Spring Island, BC
