The Emperor’s New Scarf

Lately, I have been leaving spaces in my weaving – as a metaphor – a touchstone – to remind me to leave space in my life (see my previous post).

I just got back from a trip to Edmonton to visit family & friends and set up a warp for my mom to weave…

She decided to try weaving with space too…lots of it!

As she was weaving, my dad looked over from the couch and said ‘It doesn’t look any different than the warp that just went on. Are you weaving?’. This made me think of the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes (in case you don’t know the story – it’s worth a read) and we laughed!

And decided to call this ‘The Emperor’s New Scarf’…

I love the way the warp has shifted and moved and the drape of the scarf is amazing. A nice summer weight scarf…

It looks summery and has lovely drape. Oh, Noreen already said that! How lovely that you can share weaving with your Mom. Its too good for the emperer, though. He was a bafoon, if I remember the story correctly.

Thanks Noreen & Chris! Yes, summer ocean colours…

Well, the part of the story was that there wasn’t really any weaving going on and that is what came to me. I thought perhaps it should be the Empress’s new scarf, but then the connection is missing 🙂

    Happy Weaving,

Normally, I am not a huge fan of loose weaving but this scarf is stunning! And it does indeed appear summery and scrumptious!

You have shown me the error of my ways! Loose weaving in my future! 🙂

Wow, what neat comments! I am so pleased with the yarns and colors that you warped up for me, Terri! The Emperor’s scarf 🙂 was fast and fun to weave. It does drape beautifully and I love wearing it.

At first, I was tempted to lay it out on the table and even up the ‘open spaces’ between wearings but now, I am loving the effect of the random spacing!
