Saori weaving and making ‘cloth’
At my studio we have been talking a lot lately about weaving cloth – that can be turned into anything!
This came up at one of my retreats and it shifted the idea from weaving something – a placemat, a bag, a top, etc., into the weaving of cloth.
The focus has then been more on the weaving and less on a finished product (that will happen too – just as the pillows did) but it gives another level of freedom of weaving.
From this….
to this….
is just one example….

Beautiful! I love the way the subtle even stripes in the warp ring unity to the cloth.
Thanks Taueret! I had fun putting this top together. I decided I like the white ‘icicles’ and wanted to feature that part of the fabric. I also thought – after draping it this way and that – that I liked it best on an angle. So the whole top was created around that.
There is just one seam in a continuous strip of fabric that joins it across the back of one of the shoulders. Then I sewed a bit up each side to keep it together there and tacked it into a v-neck at the front. The back has a small triangle of coordinating (SAORI-style) fabric inset in the ‘V’ to keep it from falling off the shoulders.
