Saori Summer Sherbet
In the midst of winter, I thought I would write about a summer top that I made…
This top was woven in June/July 2008. I called it Saori Summer Sherbet because of the colour palette…though the last thing you might be thinking about right now is sherbet!!
Anyway, I originally cut it into two pieces and sewed a simple jacket.
I love the colours, but the style, though okay, didn’t really feel right. So it hung in my studio.
Then one day I was looking at it and wondered what else I could make it into and so I ~carefully~ took out the seam on the back and planned to also take out the side seams. I started playing with the pieces and the possibilities and realized that I could just turn the pieces and sew them back together for a totally different look.
And, the Saori Summer Sherbet Shrug was born…
Now, this style could be made from one long piece…with the two ends folded to the middle, a simple seam along the top, leaving an opening for the arms at the top outside edge. The starting cloth for mine was 40cm wide and 2.5 metres long….it could be wider or longer and work well too.
I much prefer the drape on this simple top!

Yes! I very much like the ‘playing’ and the result – and in the summer it can be “sherbet” but for now look how well it ‘picks up on’ the (normal) winter ground cover.
Happy (continuing) holidays and all best in 2009. Met another woman who is going to participate in the saori workshop in January at Knotty’s Open House: like-minded.
Thanks Karen! I guess I didn’t notice how well it does pick up on the outdoor colours of fall and a ‘normal’ Salt Spring winter – we all ‘learn from each other’! 🙂
Happy Weaving & Happy New Year,
Terri
Looking forward to the January workshop – which I think is full….another scheduled for February – for new people or to continue exploring!
Oh yes! I love the new drapey shape! It’s pure magic! Well done 🙂
You are going to get so much pleasure from it!
big hugs

Thanks Noreen! I really do like the drape of the refashioned top better and it was fun trying out different ways of putting it together!
Happy Weaving,
Terri 🙂
Happy new year to you Terri,
The fabric is gorgeous, just the colour for the summer we’re having here at the moment.
Ahhhh – summer…..enjoy!
and Happy Weaving!
Terri
That’s easy for you to say as we are again shovelling snow for the 5th day in a row but the top is really gorgeous.
More snow! Well, I hear that you have some warm weather now, so I hope that a lot of it has melted. There must be some longing for summer here as I sold the top today!!
Happy Weaving,
Terri
