Earth Day – Weaving an Earth Banner
Happy Earth Day!
On Salt Spring Island, we had some celebrations on Sunday for Earth Day.
At one of the events I was invited to bring my Saori loom so that we could start weaving an ‘Earth Banner’.
I set up the warp using greens & browns and naturals and took my loom to the celebration.

Of course, the Raging Grannies were there to sing about what we can do to reduce our impact on the earth.

The children always love to come and try out some Saori weaving …

And many people added their threads to the Earth Banner.
Next stop – Ruckle Day on May 4 …. where the banner will continue
as we celebrate spring and the planting of new crops at the Ruckle Farm on Salt Spring Island.
Happy Earth Day … and Happy Weaving,
Terri

From Earth Day poster you put on our fridge in 1970:
Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, Recover. . . .
Happy Earth Day! 🙂
I remember that poster – I didn’t remember that it was that long ago. So, I wonder how far we have come?
These “R’s” are still so important. I know that Noreen (over at http://www.hankeringforyarn.com) could probably list off another dozen or more “R’s” to do with Earth Day as she used to do a wonderful puppet show for children…..
Happy Earth Day ….. and happy weaving,
Terri
I love seeing all the different folks lining up and gathering around the loom to weave! What a wonderful project.
Thanks laughingmuse! I love it too. The Saori loom and weaving for peace or for the earth really do seem to draw the people in. I was out Sunday at our Ruckle Farm day and again people were lined up to weave.
It’s great as a lot of people think that weaving is complex or difficult – but it certainly doesn’t need to be and they are often surprised once they sit at the loom how easy it is.
The earth banner is almost complete and will post again about it soon.
Happy Weaving,
Terri
