South (more photos)

Now I have completed the South banner of “The Directions” series and Alan has taken some great photos for me again! It continues to be interesting to explore weaving in one colour.

Though the one colour turns out to be anything but.

It gives me a chance to explore more subtle variations in tone and colour and to also explore texture in a different way.

The Directions - South

South is the warm winds and the time of youth – all represented by the colour white.

I am enjoying your Directions series. I think South is my favourite so far. I’m working on a Seasons series as I explore the different techniques of Saori and freestyle weaving. Thanks for all your inspiration!

I much enjoyed the ‘landscape’ photos in the previous post – being given the chance for an ant-like view is wonderful. Now this series gives the whole picture and a different perspective. Gorgeous. And how perfect that a tree is thusly ‘clothed’. There is a theme, somehow, of youth and warm winds here on the west coast. I feel you have celebrated this.

Karen – Yes, it has certainly been warm winds lately on the coast! It is interesting to see the different perspectives on a weaving – sitting up close weaving a row at a time, standing back and looking at the weaving from different directions and seeing things one section at a time and then the unrolling of the banner to see the whole thing – always a surprise!

Another magnificent weaving! What I especially appreciate in “South” is the opportunity to ‘see” the textures – in the weaving and in the fibers themselves. Sort of like a black and white photograph which draws your attention to details that otherwise are missed when the eye is responding to color.

And yes, I like the surprise, too, when the entire weaving is unrolled and seen as a whole.

I love the soulfulness of your “Directions” project – it seems that more than is usual with Saori, “Directions” is a weaving experience suffused with spirit and meditation.

Christine has a great idea also – seasons. Weavings based on emotional experiences – joy, friendship, peace – or created to reflect a loved one or special friend – great opportunities all for a meditative weaving experience.

As always, you and your friends are a huge source of inspiration. I love coming here and visiting.

    Thanks so much Pam!

In Saori weaving – some people say Saori is “Weave Thyself”. Perhaps “The Directions” series is a reflection of where I am at right now – meditating, considering, reflecting, considering directions in my life. I find weaving so metaphorical in the bringing together of threads, hands, colours, textures anyway and Saori has given me the freedom to express myself in new ways.

I’m so glad that you are enjoying the posts and the comments of others. Saori is all about learning from each other which is why I feel it is so important to share what I am working on.

    Happy Weaving,
    Terri
