Saori Weaving & Tea Time

Whenever I have a Saori class at my studio I like to have a tea break and serve a cuppa….now, not everyone takes a break, but the tea is always on.

And so I decided that I would like to have a tea cloth to place the pot and the cups onto. The warp is black cotton (one of the Saori pre-wound warps) and the weft is a thick cotton (8/8) with a thin variegated tencel and then bits and pieces of other weavings for shots of colour from the treasure basket.

Yes, the pre-wound warps come in 50-300 threads and 6 meters to 30 meter lengths – in black cotton or wool. It is all wound onto a cardboard tube that slips onto the back beam of the Saori loom. You just thread the heddles and reed (in one motion) and once that’s done you can weave for up to 30 meters without rethreading!

Thanks Taueret! I love that the tea cloth has bits and pieces of previous weavings that people have done at the studio……
