SAORI Salt Spring at The Workshop @ Pacifica

This past weekend I took 6 new looms over to The Workshop @ Pacifica in Brentwood Bay, Victoria.

We have set up a wonderful, waterfront workshop space to be a home for these looms.

The Workshop @ Pacifica in Brentwood Bay

I will be offering classes and workshops and we are also working on some drop-in times and loom rentals so that people in the Victoria area can continue on their SAORI weaving journey.

Paddling, of course, is also an option at special club member rates. Take some time to paddle at lunch or after your weaving or bring a friend who wants to get out on the water while you weave.

You can also enjoy a paddle

The Workshop @ Pacifica is focussing on creativity, health and balance. SAORI weaving will be part of this sharing. I’m so excited!

You can follow The Workshop @ Pacifica on Facebook to see photos, new course offerings and more.

Please see my Workshop page for times and classes.

Registration for all workshops at Pacifica are through me, so please call or email me.

Terri

SAORI Weaving @ Citizen Clothing

I was invited to share two SAORI workshops at Citizen Clothing in Victoria once again. I loaded up the van with 6 looms, yarn, roving, treasure, chairs, shuttles and all the rest….

and headed to Victoria. On Saturday we had a SAORI Kai at Knotty by Nature (more on that in another post) and then Sunday was the workshop day. Metka brought snacks and we set up for the day…

Some people had taken my previous class and some hadn’t woven before – but all created some wonderful SAORI weaving. 13 new weavings in all!!

So much inspiration…

Each one so different. I so love sharing SAORI!!

Thanks again to Metka for organizing the workshop and setting everything up and to Patrick for the use of the great space. And of course to all the weavers who came to play!

Happy Weaving,
Terri

SAORI Kai

Last week I hosted a SAORI Kai at Knotty by Nature in Victoria…

It has been a long time since we’ve had a kai and it was great to see everyone, share our weaving and be inspired by each other.

I was so excited I forgot to take photos of most of it and so missed many of the lovely pieces!

Here is the ‘firebird’ warp that I made, woven by Tara…being discussed by Eve, with Lynn in the photo in her wonderful boat neck top…

An amazing find by Jean – she was at a Thrift shop and found this yellow SAORI dress that we all think must have been made in Japan. I wonder what the story behind it is? It now has a home where it is treasured…

Tara’s Cirque de Soleil jacket …

Looking at fabric…

Marie shared a lot of what she has been working on, including upcycling sweaters, making bags and more. I missed photos of all of her work, but here is a photo of her…

She now has an ETSY shop where you can see some of her work – and buy it too!

I love to see what people have been working on and hear the stories behind them. Two new weavers were at the Kai and it was great to hear about their experiences with SAORI weaving. Claudia (Claudia’s images) was also there. Catherine Mick – also known as the Rag Lady – brought some things she has woven from kilts – repurposed into beautiful weaving and clothing.

So much fun and inspiration!

Thanks to all who were able to come. We’ll have another in a couple of months – dates tba.

Getting ready for Fibrations…

Fibrations is in Victoria tomorrow, August 18 from 10-4pm – a wonderful Community Fibre Celebration!

Today I was getting a community warp ready to welcome people to try out SAORI weaving. I call it “Blackberries & Sunshine” …

I thought I’d like to make something new to wear. I’ve had a few ideas in mind, but inspired by a recent tunic pattern I just got to work this morning making it and just finished! It is a SAORI silk pre-wound warp – from the SAORI Conference in LA, woven with silk yarns from SAORI, plus sari silk ribbon from Darn Good Yarn. I had finished weaving it in May and it has been waiting.

Upcoming SAORI Weaving Workshops

I want to let you know about some upcoming workshops I have in the Vancouver Island area. These workshops are open to anyone interested in learning more about SAORI weaving – whether you have ever woven before or not, tried SAORI or not. SAORI has no ‘levels’ of classes, everyone comes together and learns from each other and there is always something new to try.

October 1 at Knotty by Nature in Victoria, BC

October 14 & 15 a special SAORI 2-day immersion class at Studio G Art in Duncan, BC

October 29 at Knotty by Nature in Victoria, BC

We are also going to have another SAORI Kai (gathering) in Victoria. This is an informal event to share your ideas, questions, have a show and tell of things you have created, etc. All welcome. There is a small fee to cover the use of the classroom space at Knotty by Nature.

October 30 – a SAORI Kai (gathering) at Knotty by Nature in Victoria, BC

November 26 at Knotty by Nature in Victoria, BC

Feel free to also drop by the Salt Spring Fall Fair on September 17 & 18 or Fairfield Fair – a community festival in the Fairfield Community in Victoria, BC on September 24. There will be a SAORI loom to try out at both of these events.

And of course there are always opportunities to come to the SAORI Salt Spring studio for a workshop or a retreat with a B&B option.

I absolutely love sharing Saori with others and seeing their fabulous and unique creations. These classes are for anyone and everyone – no weaving experience is necessary. Others who have woven or taken other Saori classes before are also very welcome to come and explore new things, new ideas and be inspired as we learn from each other.
