SAORI Weaving with (grand)children

Back in September we went to visit our grandchildren. I thought that they might each try weaving a bit and so I brought one of my SAORI looms along. I set it up in the living room and during the day, they all enthusiastically did some SAORI weaving.

That first evening, the youngest and I had plans to play “Sorry” and read some stories before bed. He said “Could I weave instead of playing the game?” – sure! Then when it was bedtime he said “Could I weave instead of having stories? Well, maybe just one short story?” Sure!

Over the weekend, all 3 boys accumulated a lot of weaving projects and thanked me for bringing the loom along. Some were already given as gifts (or sold! – Granddad was more than happy to buy some of the weaving 🙂 ) and others were going to be Christmas gifts…

What a joy for me to be able to share this with my grandkids!!

SAORI Weaving Installations

Two SAORI woven banners have recently been installed…

The first one is a banner that was made by many weavers on Salt Spring Island. It was donated to the SAORI Bridges of Elm Park project in Worcester, MA. The vision of Nat & Mihoko of SAORI Worcester to drape the bridges in the park with beautiful woven banners with the proceeds to support long-term low-income Worcester Public School young artists as part of a SAORI weaving program.

The banner has now been installed in The Children’s Division of the Worcester Public Library in Worcester, MA…

The second banner, is a banner called “Threads of Hope & Healing” that went to Hiroshima, Japan as part of SAORI Peace Weave 2012 (see more on my blog thread here) and then travelled to the 2012 International SAORI Weaving conference hosted by SAORI Studio LA.

It is now installed at Pura Vida Oceanside Massage Therapy on Fernwood Road on Salt Spring Island. Here is it in the reception/waiting room of the clinic…
